The 25-year-old maintained not guilty pleas in the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday to charges of kidnap, sexual servitude, intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm, unlawful confinement, and sexual intercourse without consent.

Magistrate Robert Cook committed the man to the ACT Supreme Court to stand trial.

The matter will appear for mention later this month.

Court documents said the man became infatuated with the woman and convinced her to move in with him after they met at a Canberra fast food store in December last year.

He allegedly forced her to pay for shopping, do his cleaning, and forbid her from talking to other men – threatening he would cut her head off if she disobeyed him.

Over the next two months, he is accused of controlling her mobile phone and money, and forced into depraved, often violent sexual acts.

It is alleged he used a knife to carve his nickname into her arm, threatened to cut off her legs, and told her he was going to kill her.

The woman was allegedly told that nobody would know if she was dead, because she was an illegal immigrant.

She was helped to escape by passers-by after he allegedly said he would cut his name into her other arm for messing up a pizza delivery.
