Police found 170 capsules of what was suspected to be MDMA in the car of Emma Maree Di Bitonto, 24, who was pulled over at 11pm on Friday.

She also had one gram each of what was suspected to be cocaine and MDMA in her purse.

The Wright resident, a full-time nanny and student, was charged on Saturday morning with trafficking and possession offences.

Magistrate Karen Fryar said the consumption of illegal substances would not be tolerated by the medical profession.

"The ethical standards of that profession are as high or higher than the legal profession – if you have any sort of ambitions in that respect you are really going down the wrong path," she said.

The duty defence lawyer, Hugh Jorgensen, said his client conceded she had a small amount of drugs for personal use in her purse, but knew nothing about the 170 capsules stored in two containers in the car's centre console.

Mr Jorgensen said the defendant had allowed other residents in her share house to use the vehicle during the week before.

No pleas were entered.

Prosecutor David Swan opposed bail on grounds including the likelihood of interference with evidence or obstruction of the course of justice and said there was an inference the defendant was heavily involved in selling drugs.

Mr Jorgensen said much of the prosecution's concerns were speculative and his client was a long-term resident of Canberra who was not a flight risk.

Magistrate Fryar granted bail. The matter returns to court on May 25.
