Ibrahim Kamara, 20, of Melba faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday on a total of six charges relating to an alleged liaison with a 15-year-old.

The Melba Copland College student allegedly had sex with the minor three times in one day in July this year. He was found in possession of child pornography during a police raid of his Melba home in August, police allege.

The man is a permanent resident of Australia, having moved from Sierra Leone two years ago. He is studying for his year 12 certificate at the Canberra college.

He did not enter a plea but sought an adjournment for legal advice.

The prosecution requested the magistrate impose strict bail conditions.

Prosecutors said there was a significant concern for the validity of the case if the Facebook account of the man was deleted or changed.

Magistrate Robert Cook granted bail, noting the difficultly in imposing conditions with regards to social media.

"Granting bail is one of trust and balancing risk," Mr Cook said to Kamara.

Kamara was ordered not to directly or indirectly contact the young person, not to attempt to find out the location of the young person, and not to go within 100 metres of the young person. Kamara was also told to surrender his passport to "remove the risk of flight temptation".

"Concentrate on your studies and don't breach your bail conditions," Mr Cook told him.

He noted the charges, if proved, could carry a prison sentence of more than five years.

The matter will return to court later this month.
