The $29.84 million budgeted in the next financial year is in addition to $7 million committed to the school in March for design and tender documentation.
The primary school will be the first in the new Molonglo Valley development and will cater for 712 preschool and primary school students when it opens in 2016, predominantly from the new suburbs of Coombs and Wright.
“With 55,000 people expected to move into Molonglo over the next 30 years, this funding demonstrates the ACT government’s commitment to investing in education to ensure every child in the territory receives the best possible education, regardless of where they live,” Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch said.
“I am proud to be delivering on this important election commitment for the growing Molonglo Valley region, with a total of $47 million allocated to building this school.”
The successful tender was expected to be announced last month, but the government said it was still being evaluated and, once awarded, work on the school was expected to begin in August.
The school will include learning spaces for preschool to year-6 students, a resource centre, a general purpose hall/gymnasium, outdoor learning and play areas including an oval, school administration areas and a canteen.
