The windy weather saw emergency services called out to 12 jobs, with tree and branches blocking roads and pathways and causing minor damage to homes.

The cold front, responsible for the miserable showers, grey clouds and icy gusts, is expected to hang around until Monday, before another cold front on Tuesday brings even more poor weather - just in time for the federal budget.

"There was a few isolated storms popping up in the districts around the area, in the ACT and just before the Snowy Mountains, dissipating before they reached the ranges," Weatherzone meteorologist Tristan Meyers said.

He said, however, that the fierce winds, peaking at 78km/h around midday on Sunday, are expected to ease into the evening.

"There is a bit of instability in the air as part of a cold front that came through on Sunday, bringing those winds," Mr Meyers said.

"But they are decreasing now, towards the evening with a chilly night expected, looking to be about 5 degrees."

"As the cold front passes, it will bring a few isolated showers.

"Monday will see tops of 15 degrees with a possible shower and moisture lingering in the area, and it's looking like you will see rain in the order of a few millimetres," Mr Meyers said.

He said there was a 60 per cent chance of rain all day.

"The risk peaks around midday then eases off into the later afternoon, but there is a 60 per cent risk all day with patchy low cloud," he said.

And it is not over yet - Tuesday is also set to be a miserable day.

"To Tuesday, there are beginnings of another front to the southeast that will bring more showers to the area, in the order of a few millimetres, but it will only climb up to 14 degrees, so fairly chilly," he said.

Possible showers are also forecast for Wednesday with a 30 per cent chance of a shower.

The weather is expected to start clearing on Thursday, when a partly cloudy day is expected.

Snowys mountains catch weekend snow, with more on the way

Ski cams at Perisher were a healthy white on Sunday.

"The Snowys got a few centimetres of snow, especially Perisher, so it looks like they have kicked off the ski season," Mr Meyers said.

And there is more on the way mid week.

"In terms of snow in the future we might get a little bit on Tuesday possibly in the morning. Then on Wednesday in the early morning they will get some snow as temperatures drop.

"It will be minus 4 degrees on Wednesday in Thredbo, so Wednesday morning is my pick of when the snow is coming," Mr Meyers said.
