Ten drivers had their licenses seized, while six drivers were meant to be driving with no alcohol in their system due to their license conditions.
ACT Policing said in a statement that the highest reading for the week, ending July 7, was recorded about 3am on Saturday in Fyshwick.
A 24-year-old Palmerston driver returned a positive roadside screening test when stopped in Gladstone Street. He was taken to the City Police Station, where he recorded a blood alcohol content reading of 0.183.
Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Operations Sergeant Mark Steel said the 22 drivers caught over the week showed “complete disregard” for other road users.
Sergeant Steel said the statistics were "disturbing", particularly given that ACT Policing targeted drink driving throughout June.
“While we are seeing short-term benefits during our targeted campaigns, what we really want is a long-term culture change,” Sergeant Steel said.
“As a community we need to say that drink-driving is not acceptable. It’s appalling that these 22 drink drivers have shown such disregard for the law and are clearly willing to put not only their own lives at risk but also those of their passenger and other road users.”
Sergeant Steel said every police car was fitted with breath-testing equipment.
