The man was riding with a group of friends along Middlebank Road at Berridale, near Jindabyne about 4pm.
The 51-year-old was coming around a bend when he lost control and left the road.
His bike hit a rock, a tree, and then a fence, throwing the rider from his bike.
The man was left with serious injuries. His friends rushed to his aid, trying to revive the man using CPR before paramedics arrived.
But their efforts to keep their friend alive failed, and he died at the scene.
Cooma police are investigating the crash and will prepare a report for the coroner.
