The young man who died in a motorcycle crash late on Christmas night in Canberra's inner north was a learner rider, and police have said his riding experience, fatigue, and a number of other factors will form part of the investigation into his death.

The 22-year-old Turner man was riding north on Northbourne Avenue about 11pm on Christmas Day when he hit a traffic island while turning left into Mouat Street in Lyneham. He was riding a green Kawasaki 300cc motorbike with an L-plate on the back.
Witnesses to the crash called triple-0, and paramedics were able to stabilise the man at the scene, but he later died in Canberra Hospital.
Police Superintendent Brett Kidner did not have details of the man's injuries, nor did he disclose where the victim had been or where he was going, but said it would all form part of the police investigation.
"Part of the investigation will determine what the actual cause of the accident was. It will look into the factors such as what the male did during the day to see if fatigue or any other contributing factors altered his ability to ride that motorbike," he said.
"Experience is always a consideration in our investigations, the road surface and weather conditions will be looked at.
“At the end of the day any collision that results in a fatal outcome is a disappointment for us."
He is the seventh person to die on an ACT road this year, and the second to be killed in a motorcycle accident after violinist Lorna Cumming died in a crash in March while riding pillion.

It comes as two men have been killed and three others injured in a horror crash on the Pacific Motorway north of Sydney, police say.
This was also a single-vehicle crash. It happened just before 5am on Boxing Day when a south-bound vehicle hit an embankment just north of Jolls Bridge at Mooney Mooney on the Central Coast.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said one man was thrown from the vehicle and died immediately.
A second man was trapped in the car's wreckage and died before he could be released.
Paramedics are treating three other men for a range of injuries suffered in the crash.

Ambulance officers took a 60-year-old woman to Canberra Hospital with minor injuries after a single vehicle accident in Calwell on Wednesday evening.
In a separate, earlier accident, a 23-year-old man has been taken to hospital with minor injuries after he rolled his car on Barry Drive, Acton, on Wednesday afternoon.
A 35-year-old male motorcyclist came off his bike on Tidbinbilla Road at Stromlo shortly before noon.
