The exhibition, Past, Present, Future: An Exhibition Commemorating the 10-Year Anniversary of the 2003 bushfires, was the brainchild of Scope Mount Stromlo cafe's director Simone Hunter.
Ms Hunter was ''in the thick of the bushfires'' when they hit in 2003, and has witnessed the community's effort in ''picking up the pieces''.
She hopes the exhibition, to be held during the Centenary of Canberra next year, will reflect what has been achieved since 2003.
''Apart from the physical destruction and chaos it caused, there was a lot of grief,'' Ms Hunter said.
''Over the last decade people have quietly gone about their business, getting their lives back on track.
''From the balcony here you can see where the fire came from. It hit here and then went down the hill and caused devastation there.
''I guess in a way Mount Stromlo is ground zero for the bushfires.''
Scope Mount Stromlo has received about $16,000 in funding from the Centenary of Canberra initiatives grant fund to design and put on the exhibition, which will be held in various locations around Mount Stromlo.
It is hoped the exhibition will engage the community and raise awareness of the area's significance.
''There have been a lot of people recently coming back up to Mount Stromlo to enjoy it again,'' Ms Hunter said. ''A lot of those people have stories. And we've spent a lot of time in the cafe talking to locals and tourists about the story of what happened in the region, the renewal of Mount Stromlo and how the observatory's use has changed.
''It dawned on me it would be a great opportunity next year, being the 10-year anniversary of the firestorm and the Centenary of Canberra, to host an exhibition addressing these things.''
People have been invited to share their stories or donate photos, artefacts or artworks related to the firestorm.
Ms Hunter said she had access to a number of artefacts but has urged the community to rally together like they did in 2003 and get involved in Past, Present, Future.
