Aleksander Vojneski, 28, of Hawker is charged with the murder of Paula Conlon, who was found dead in her home in late March.
He has not entered pleas.
Police say Ms Conlon was stabbed to death.
The mother of three was described as a caring woman who loved helping people.
Relatives of Ms Conlon watched from the back of the court as Vojneski made a brief appearance in court this morning.
Defence lawyer Peter Woodhouse told the court his client had been assessed by a private psychiatrist yesterday and he was still considering whether to raise the issue of Vojneski's fitness to plead.
He asked for the matter to be adjourned for a case management hearing to allow the prosecution to prepare a brief of evidence.
Prosecutor Ben Allison asked for the case to be marked as a major matter.
Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker adjourned the matter until July.
