Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch announced on Wednesday the Music Viva in Schools program will receive an annual grant of $15,000 from 2015 to 2017.
"Musica Viva is recognised as Australia's oldest independent, professional performing arts organisation, and I am very pleased to announce that they will receive an annual grant … ... to continue their excellent program in ACT primary schools," Ms Burch said.
She said the Music Viva in Schools program will help teachers deliver the arts component of the Australian Curriculum and help ensure that high quality arts education continued to be provided to ACT students
"The Musica Viva professional development program is implemented via a range of activities including teacher forums, online professional development courses and tailored whole school professional development," Ms Burch said.
Ms Burch said the ACT government valued and acknowledged the role music plays in engaging, inspiring, and enriching the lives of all students by fostering their creative potential.
"The funding for Musica Viva in Schools is an investment in further building the skills of our already high quality teachers across the ACT," she said.
