IT was a busy weekend for Troy Brady. He was singing in Canberra on Saturday night before flying home to Cairns, hopefully before a forecast cyclone hit parts of north Queensland.

Brady pictured had been brought to the national capital for the final night of the Enlighten festival at the National Archives for a performance linked to the I’ve Been Working on the Railway exhibition.
Brady doesn’t find it particularly onerous to compose songs specifically to go with an exhibition or a display. ‘‘That’s what I do, I’m a soul man,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s all poetry at the end of the day.’’ Brady formed the band Troy Trevelyn and the Tribe with his wife Trevelyn in 2004.
The group won a 2006 Deadly Award for band of the year, and was nominated for single of the year and best indigenous artist at the 2007 Musicoz Awards.
After a four-year hiatus he has reignited his musical career.
Enlighten organisers have been spruiking large crowd numbers, although the official figures are yet to be released.
Tourism Minister Andrew Barr said the festival was now an established event on Canberra’s calendar.
‘‘[Friday] night was close to a record night for attendance and the second weekend of Enlighten is traditionally stronger than the first’’ he said, hoping for a strong end to the festival.
