In what was a tumultuous 2015 for Canberra FM, popular 104.7 breakfast announcer Scott Masters was dumped, a replacement breakfast show lasted only five weeks and Masters' on-air partner Nigel Johnson announced he was shifting to Mix 106.3. Johnson is due to start on the Mix 106.3 drive program on February 8.

The Canberra Times also understands Masters, who claimed he was sacked not made redundant, received an out-of-court settlement from Canberra FM just before Christmas but is unable to discuss it as he is subject to a confidentiality agreement.

The new 104.7 breakfast team of Tanya Hennessy and Ryan Jon starts on Monday, promising to deliver news that Canberrans want as well as more than a few "LOLs".

Canberra's No.1 radio station, 666 ABC Canberra, has, meanwhile, announced its local lineup will be unchanged as its hosts return on-air from Monday, including Philip Clark back in the chair for breakfast. While the local 666 line-up remains the same, there is a new host for the Evenings program with singer Christine Anu presenting with Dom Knight until April, before taking the reins full time.

The new breakfast presenter on 2CC, Tim Shaw, got the ball rolling early, taking up the post on Monday, replacing Mark Parton.

In the meantime, Hennessy and Jon say they are excited to take on the challenge of 104.7 breakfast, each working in regional commercial radio beforehand but also bringing other life experiences to the job.

Ryan, 28, played volleyball professionally and was attached to the Australian Institute of Sport until three shoulder reconstructions forced him out of the game. He also has an honours degree in economics and worked for one of the big four banks.

"I was sort of like the class clown of the bank," he said. "Until one day my boss said one day, 'If you want to tell stories all day, you should go and work on radio'." So he did, doing breakfast radio for three years with Southern Cross Austereo in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia.

Canberra is the highlight of his career so far.

"This is my dream job," he said.

Ryan said he wanted to deliver the news Canberrans wanted to hear.

"I suppose I want to ask, 'What does Canberra actually give a shit about?'," he said. "There are things that look a bit newsy but are they the things people actually care about?"

Ryan said his girlfriend Brigitte – a winemaker and serious foodie – was initially reluctant to move to Canberra. But the vast array of wineries and restaurants in the national capital and surrounding area had changed all that.

"She's like a kid in a candy store," he said.

Tanya, 30, is originally from Newcastle where she went to a performing arts high school. She studied acting and was a clown at Luna Park – and played a hooker in Underbelly Razor.

"I've got 'prostitute' on my CV nine times and that's about it'," she said, with a laugh. She also worked in stand-up comedy.

The pair have known each other for a few years after working in radio in regional NSW. Tanya has worked in Newcastle, Toowoomba and Griffith and also did a regular stint on The Scoopla Show.

Her aim for the program at 104.7 is simple.

"I guess we want to make some people laugh in the morning. A few LOLs," Tanya said.

And both are impressed by Canberra. Ryan knows the place from his AIS days and has a few Moosehead's stories to tell. Tanya had only visited Floriade – and loved it – but is blown away by the evolution of the city, declaring Braddon "the coolest suburb ever".

"Canberra is so cool. Everything is so new and current," she said.

"Most of my friends are in Sydney or Newcastle and I'm so stoked to bring them to Canberra. They have this idea of what Canberra is but I'm trying to tell them, 'No it's so different! It's not like your year five excursion!'

"You've got to come and see it and feel it. It's a different city, it's a thriving city. I'm so stoked to be here."
