A year ago the owner of the IGA, Darren Heathcote, was celebrating a decision by Woolworths not to open in Bungendore, leaving him free to sign a lease on the new building which was constructed in Malbon Street, behind Le Tres Bon French restaurant.
The new building is three times bigger than the old supermarket in Gibraltar Street.
"We now have the space to showcase the local producers we work with – such as Bay Marlin Seafoods from Batemans Bay, Two Sisters olive oil from Braidwood and Spicy Sauce Co curry mixes from the South Coast," he said.
Bungendore Country Butchery will provide the majority of meat products for the store.
.Produce from farms around Bungendore and Araluen, eggs from Long Paddock and native flowers from Bungendore Blooms will also be for sale. An in-house barista uses coffee beans from the Canberra Coffee Company.
Member for Monaro and deputy premier John Barilaro will officially open the new "IGA Village" supermarket on Saturday
The opening celebrations will include an Easter egg hunt and face painting for kids as well as cooking demonstrations from 4 Ingredients expert Kim McCosker.
"Our opening is a thank you to the community for continually supporting us during the 26 years we have been in business," Darren said.
