Motorists using Majura Road on Monday enjoyed their first taste of the new Majura Parkway when traffic was diverted along the northern end of the four-lane carriageway.

About five kilometres of the new parkway between the new roundabout at Tambreet Street near Majura Pines and the Federal Highway interchange was opened to vehicles travelling north and south.
Offering a much smoother, straighter ride than the deteriorating surface of the winding Majura Road, the newly opened section of the parkway extends past Mount Majura Winery and Mount Majura Road to the interchange, which is still being modified.
Exit signs are in place for the gun clubs accessed via Hector McIntosh Grove.
Motorists can still use Majura Road between Tambreet Street and Fairbairn Avenue.
ACT Territory and Municipal Services says traffic will continue to travel on Majura Road south of Tambreet Street and work will then start on the completion of the southbound carriageway including placing the final asphalt surface and the completion of the winery access road and Majura Road intersection.
The $288 million Majura Parkway is Canberra's biggest construction project and will link the Monaro Highway to the Federal Highway once completed.
It is designed as a long-term solution for north-south through traffic.
Despite problems with contractors last year, the road was scheduled to open to traffic in mid-2016.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday roadworks are due to take place between 9am and 11am to widen Pialligo Avenue, with the lefthand westbound lane closed to traffic.
