The 18-year-old, who is understood to be the baby girl's mother, did not apply for bail when she appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday on a charge of unlawfully taking a child.

She was listed to reappear on September 1, the same day as her co-accused and partner.

The man, 22, has also been charged with aggravated burglary and assault.

Court documents, filed during the man's bail application on Saturday, said he allegedly entered the Barnardos Care House in Belconnen armed with a knife and fake firearm via an unlocked side door about 12.30pm on Thursday.

He allegedly told a Barnardos staff member to "get on the ground and count to 100, I am going to search the house".

The staff member saw the woman take the 16-month-old baby and leave.

Court documents said the baby had been placed in protection in June last year – aged two months – and now had ongoing foster carers.

The woman allegedly posted her intention to abduct a child to a social media account in May.

Police launched a man hunt after the abduction on Thursday, and officers found the man at Shallow Crossing, north of Nelligen about 9am on Friday.

The woman and baby were found safe and well at a nearby camping ground.

The pair were extradited to the ACT on Friday.

The man was refused bail when he appeared in court on Saturday, on the grounds he could pose a danger to the child and was a flight risk.

Neither of the accused have entered pleas.

The matter will return to court in September.
