Senator Zed Seselja will not be challenged for Liberal Party preselection for the election. The deadline for potential challengers closed earlier this week, with no party member nominating. Senator Seselja will be formally chosen as the Liberal candidate at a meeting on June 20, a stark contrast to the angst in the party before the last election, when he won preselection against long-term senator Gary Humphries. Senator Seselja said on Wednesday the implicit endorsement of the party reflected his success with changing the planning powers of the National Capital Authority and keeping the Department of Social Services in Tuggeranong.
