Bag snatchers and thieves are not having much luck in Canberra, with a woman in Dickson being the latest to thwart an attempted robbery.
Police said the 43-year-old woman fought off two men’s attempts to take her handbag about 11.30pm Saturday.
The theft attempt follows a daring swoop mid-morning on Friday outside an ATM at Woden Town Centre, when a woman snatched money from an elderly women.
Police arrested a 29 year-old Lyons woman at nearby units on Saturday morning.
Now they are on the lookout for the two men involved in the attempted bag snatch at Dickson on Saturday night.
The woman held on to her handbag until the first of the would-be robbers eventually let go and fell to the ground.
A second man then approached to help the attacker.
Witnesses quickly came to the woman’s aid.
Both men ran off empty handed in the direction of an alleyway near the liquor store. The woman was uninjured.
The offender who grabbed the bag is between 23 and 28-years-old, Caucasian with very fair skin, around 178cm (5 foot, 10 inches) tall, a slim build and a narrow face. He was wearing a grey hooded jumper.
The second man is between 17 to 20-years-old, Caucasian, about 190 cm (6 foot, three inches) tall with a stocky build and broad shoulders, dark hair and dark eyes. He was also wearing a grey hooded jumper.
