There is no known threat to Canberra following the terrorism attack in Manchester, but the ACT government will help form a national plan of tightening security at major events.

After sending his thoughts and prayers to the loved ones of the 22 lives lost in Monday night's suicide bombing at the Manchester Arena, Chief Minister Andrew Barr said Canberrans would have been impacted by footage of the tragedy.
"The safety of our people is the government's first priority," Mr Barr said.
"While the national terrorism public alert level remains at 'probable,' there is no specific or credible threat to the ACT."
He said the state and federal governments had prioritised a commitment to a national strategy that would improve security at popular events.
"The strategy will provide a consistent, national approach to protecting crowded places which can be applied flexibility to suit local circumstances."
In the wake of the attack, the wider Canberra community rallied behind those affected by the lives lost.
Former British High Commissioner Tony Brennan became emotional while saying he would hold his loved ones extra tight.
"Because you never know how long it will last," he said.
"I can't stop thinking about Manchester all the time. It's a significant global city but it is also a tight-knit one."
He encouraged Canberrans not to cancel plans to travel to England, saying he believed "these people are trying to change our lives and we shouldn't let them."
For several nights from Wednesday, the National Capital Authority was to illuminate the National Carillon and the Kings Avenue overpass in red, white and blue, to honour the victims.
While there was believed to be no threat posed to the ACT, police would not specifically state whether they would ramp up security at any building or events.
A federal police spokeswoman said security arrangements at Parliament House was kept secret as to protect integrity. But she said the threat level at the building had not changed.
Meanwhile, an ACT Policing spokeswoman said police work on a case-by-case basis to identify any risks, where possible, associated with events. She said a number of factors inform security measures at Canberra's buildings.
ACT opposition leader Alistair Coe expressed shock and sadness at the attack, which claimed the lives of children.
"As a father of two, I cannot fathom the grief of parents who have lost a child, or of siblings who have lost a brother or sister in Manchester," he said.
The British High Commission will open a condolence book for members of the community to sign during specific periods from 9am on Thursday.
The high commission is also holding a private memorial service on Thursday to pay tribute who those who died in the attack.
