But the man has been ordered to not consume alcohol and drugs, and told he cannot contact his estranged lover.
Shane Mitchell Walden, 22, is charged with attacking the woman three months after they split up in February.
The pair ran into each other at the Groovin' the Moo music festival at the University of Canberra on Sunday and arranged to meet up later on in the night.
Walden went to the woman's home about 11pm, but they started fighting.
He allegedly pushed her and punched her in the face.
The woman's head hit a bedroom wall, and she sat on the floor and began crying.
The woman then allegedly punched Walden, and he shoved her into a mirror, before putting her in a headlock on a bed.
She had trouble breathing, lost vision in both eyes, and then lost consciousness, according to court documents.
Walden allegedly waited for her to wake up and bit her on the nose and then her index finger.
The 22-year-old appeared in ACT Magistrates Court for the second time on Friday morning.
He applied for bail, which was not opposed by the prosecution.
Walden was released on a set of conditions, including that he not approach or contact the woman.
He has been ordered not to consume alcohol or drugs, and will be subject to urinalysis and breath analysis.
Walden's lawyers have previously argued that he acted in self-defence, and that the ex-partner was under the influence of drugs.
He will appear in court again in June.
