The winning ticket was purchased from The Thistle Kiosk in Westfield Woden 12 days ago, but as the buyer wasn’t registered with NSW Lotteries, there was no way to contact them.
But on Tuesday the winning ticket was brought forth, and the division one prize of $10 million was finally claimed.
NSW Lotteries said the winner had actually known about the win for a few days, but chose to wait to claim their prize.
The prize money for a division one win becomes available two weeks after the draw – which means the Canberran winner will be able to collect their tax free $10 million lump sum win on Friday.
Winners could ask for additional celebrations and novelty cheques, but a NSW Lotteries spokeswoman said she couldn’t comment on whether or not the Canberra winner had made such a request.
