One person is dead and another is in a critical condition after a high-speed crash on the Barton Highway on Friday afternoon.

A dark grey Holden Commodore and an ACT-registered white Mitsubishi collided head-on near a slight bend of the Barton Highway at Murrumbateman about 3.40pm.
The crash left two people with critical injuries, while a third was taken to hospital in a stable condition. One of the patients died on Friday night.
Emergency services from both NSW and the ACT rushed to the scene, just near the Capricorn Park Horse Stud Estate, while the Snowy Hydro Southcare Rescue Helicopter was also called in to airlift a patient.
ACT Fire and Rescue crews worked to free one man who was trapped in his vehicle, before the rescue helicopter flew him to The Canberra Hospital.
The crash closed off the Barton Highway for over four hours in both directions.
The highway was reopened just after 8pm.
The cause of the crash was not clear about 9.30pm Friday.
The notorious 38-kilometre stretch of the Barton Highway between the Hume Highway to the ACT border had 48 casualty crashes and six deaths between 2005 and 2009, according to figures from the Australian Automobile Association.
