A slimly built offender was caught by CCTV cameras breaking into vehicles, smashing sun roofs, forcing entry into vehicles and stealing items from parked cars between 1am and 6am on Friday March 27.

Residents made multiple reports of vehicle and property damage to ACT Policing.

Police declined to answer questions relating to the matter, but said it was under investigation and they intended to release images from the CCTV footage of the person of interest later.

An owner of one of the apartments in the complex, who asked not be identified, said residents were stunned the vandal had gained entry as both a key and swipe key fob were required for access.

"There is CCTV and it is a secure car park," he said. "It doesn't look like it's been a opportunistic attack by this person."

He said he found it astonishing that the person seemed unconcerned by several people who wandered through the car park as damage was being done.

"It all happened in the early hours between 1am and 6am on that Friday night," he said. "You can see on the footage that he was not concerned about people walking through the basement or cars coming in and out. He's not even trying to hide."

Residents were awaiting the outcome of the investigation by ACT Policing, but with the Easter long weekend looming apartment owners had agreed to take extra precaution until the perpetrator was caught by authorities.

"The owners corporation is going to fund a roaming security service over the Easter long weekend and we are looking at longer term security options," the owner said.

"It happened in one of four or five car park areas in the complex, but nothing of this severity has occurred before and people are now more alert."
