Two young men accused of viciously beating and robbing a friend in Canberra's south claimed the alleged victim was in possession of child pornography, a court has heard.
Matthew James Hood and Matthew James Burge were yesterday remanded in custody after Magistrate Maria Doogan described the alleged crime as ''a most violent attack''.
The two men have been charged with aggravated robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and property damage but have yet to enter pleas.
When police arrived at the scene the man was allegedly covered in blood and his stereo had been thrown into the wall, smashing a hole. The ACT Magistrates Court heard Hood, 19, and Burge, 20, went to the man's house in Calwell on Wednesday night after drinking at a nearby club.
It is alleged the trio watched television and smoked cigarettes before discussing pornography.
The court heard the complainant, a 54-year-old man, mentioned he had recently downloaded some pornography and invited the pair to view it on his laptop.
One of the two did so and allegedly began accusing the older man of having images of underage girls on the computer.
A subsequent police check of the injured man's laptop computer revealed no images appearing to be child pornography.
Police allege the two assailants proceeded to attack the other man, kicking him repeatedly in the head and chest.
Burge and Hood are accused of taking the man's wallet, which contained a bankcard and a $100 Coles gift card, and demanding he tell them his PIN.
When he refused they allegedly discussed getting a knife or a pair of scissors from the kitchen and stabbing him until he told them the number.
The court heard they proceeded to smash a stereo system, stab scissors into a wall and ransack the house.
The alleged victim was later treated for a fractured eye socket and lacerated spleen.
Lawyers for both defendants said their clients were prepared to abide by strict bail conditions.
But Ms Doogan said the violence of the alleged offence and the bizarre nature of the incident left her disinclined to grant bail.
''It's a most violent attack, who knows why and what makes a 19-year-old act in this fashion, that's my concern,'' she said.
The pair are due back in court later this month.
