Tawanda David Noble and Brendon James Cooper faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday accused of importing anabolic steroids.

Noble, 29, has been charged with importation, supply and possession of steroids.

Cooper, 27, has been charged with importation and possession of steroids as well as cultivating cannabis for sale.

Commonwealth prosecutors allege Noble, Cooper and another man were travelling companions returning from Thailand and brought the drugs into Western Australia.

They were subsequently charged with the possession and importation offences in the ACT.

Noble's lawyer, Kamy Saeedi, on Tuesday asked for his client's bail to be varied so he could report just one day each week, which the prosecution did not oppose.

However, they challenged his bid to remove a non-contact condition in relation to the third traveller, who has not been charged, because the pair played social sport together. Mr Saeedi said there was no suggestion Noble, from Gordon, had been trying to influence anybody connected with the case.

Magistrate Bernadette Boss granted the altered reporting condition but declined to rule on the non-contact issue because the prosecution needed more time to respond.

Both men are due back in court in January.
