The University of Canberra is opening up 40 hectares of its Belconnen campus for development in the hope of generating $100 million in capital investment each year for the next decade.

Vice-chancellor Stephen Parker and ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher will unveil an investment prospectus on campus on Friday.
A specially-appointed campus development board chaired by Jim Service has spent two years working on the project.
Professor Parker said potential development could range from residential ''alumni'' villages, to health research and development bodies wanting to be in close proximity to the new UC hospital, government agencies, commercial organisations, technology parks, arts and culture complexes, sporting facilities and business incubators.
UC has a Crown lease, and said it would consider land sales, leases, build-own-operate-transfer schemes such as the ones already in use to provide student accommodation, and joint ventures.
''Ideally we would like a real mix but there needs to be a real sense of partnership with the university,'' Professor Parker said.
He came up with the idea of redeveloping campus land early on in his first term as vice-chancellor but said it had taken time to prepare the prospectus and liaise with the ACT government, which supported the moves and would endeavour to provide smooth passage for development applications.
The financial flow-on effects to the UC would be used to invest in academic performance and research. In line with Professor Parker's commitment to share profits with the university community, he reaffirmed that future surpluses may be shared among staff. The principles used to determine new campus development, which will be unveiled on Friday, include its need to comply with the University of Canberra Act, the Crown Lease and the Territory Plan.
New works also need to consider existing university infrastructure and populations.
''Development will take into account aesthetic design, sustainability and construction considerations appropriate to a university which teaches and researches in relevant disciplines, including architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, building and construction management and urban planning,'' the prospectus said. Development decisions would be ''consultative, transparent, risk-based and accountable'' and collaborative projects would be entered into with partners who were of ''good repute following rigorous due diligence''.
Professor Parker said there was an expectation that over the next decade post-secondary education in the ACT could deliver $30 billion to the economy in capital and recurrent expenditure and it was realistic to consider that $1 billion could be unlocked for the UC and ACT economy through the campus redevelopment.
