Brian Jones' photo series Ice Forms captures the grandeur and beauty of ice, and the effects are chilling. Ice Cave, Neko Bay is just one photo in the award-winning, six-part series that will feature in the Canberra Photographic Society's annual Out There showcase exhibition this year.

"I particularly like Ice Cave, Neko Bay because of the icicles fringing the entrance to the cave, the texture of the ice and the sense of perspective suggested by the progressively darker ice deeper in the cave," Jones said.
The artist spent two winters in Ottawa, Canada, and has travelled to Alaska, the Arctic and Antarctica on multiple occasions.
When asked about what inspires him, he reflected on the work of fellow photographer Richard Avedon.
"I like novelty, creativity and subtlety … works that display an artist's touch," he said.
This year it will be the sixth Out There exhibition.
Judy Parker, a member of the Canberra Photographic Society committee and organiser of the exhibition, which will be held at the Watson Arts Centre, said: "It includes many impressive images from those who spend much of their time travelling the world in search of photographs and work by those who hunt for images much closer to home, including close observations of usually unnoticed details in our everyday environment."
While the majority of participants in the exhibition use digital technology to capture, process and print their images, they are also free to use more traditional techniques and incorporate their own film-based images.
"While many exhibited images are in colour, others prefer the strength and special impact of … black and white," Mrs Parker said.
Out There 2014 will open on Saturday at 10am. For more information visit canberrapotters.com.au.
