A pilot has escaped injury after the plane he was flying crashed and burst into flames near the Hume Highway north of Canberra.

Emergency services were called to a private air strip between Goulburn and Marulan about 6pm.
Police said a single engine Brumby plane had started to take off when it crashed and caught fire.
The pilot and sole occupant, a 78-year-old Robertson man, was able to leave the plane himself and did not require medical treatment.
The plane was destroyed.
Recreational Aviation Australia is looking into the events leading up to the crash.
