Tilley's decor is extremely elegant: private booth seating, red velvet, dark wood and darker lighting. Tilley's is fitted out with a large stage in the middle for performers, who often frequent the establishment.

It's perfect if you are heading there after a big night, the dark, private booth seating is perfect for resting a sore head. Tilley's offers an all-day breakfast.

Make sure you try the home-made baked beans with pesto. When you order, you're given a number and the food is brought out by a waiter. But strangely, they expect you to stand and wait for your coffee.

Lonsdale Street Roasters, Braddon

Very hipster. Lonsdale Street Roasters is perfect if you just want to duck in for a quick brunch before moving on somewhere else. The music is often too loud, and the staff often a bit too cool, but the coffee is exquisite and the eclectic decor is worth a look.

There are decals with famous quotes turned into coffee-speak, for example: "Yippie chai yay, mother lover."

Ricardo's Cafe, Jamison Plaza, Macquarie

Ricardo's has a very funky and fresh feel to it. The decor is minimal with a brown and green theme and lots of glass. Ricardo's also does all-day breakfast and has an amazing menu with something for everyone.

Ricardo's is fantastic at accommodating any type of dietary requirements you may have. Although the cafe is known mostly for its cakes, it has beautifully fresh food made to order, not to mention the coffee.

My recommendation would be either the omelette or the eggs Benedict with salmon.

Cafe InJoy, Nicholls

Cheap and cheerful. Gold Creek Village may be lacking in terms of service, but the food is amazingly well-priced considering the portions and the quality of the fare.

I usually get two breakfasts there, because it costs the same as getting one anywhere else. My picks would be the French toast and the breakfast stack.

A Bite to Eat, Chifley

I have only been here once, but I liked it so much I’m giving it a mention. To me, this cafe is a bit rough around the edges, but A Bite to Eat makes no apologies for this, in fact, the dingy vibe is part of the appeal.

There is a wonderful courtyard to be enjoyed if the sun is shining, otherwise you can chill out on a couch inside. All-day breakfast is offered on the weekend.

With menu items sporting names such as The Whistling Gypsy, The Sherpa and Beached As, who could resist a visit?
