The chase began about 4.15pm when police conducting a patrol in Griffith noticed a white Toyota Corolla allegedly accelerated quickly past the police car.
The officers followed the car, then tried to perform a traffic stop, at which point the driver of the vehicle allegedly fled from police.
The pursuit along a number of Griffith streets was terminated by police.
But about 4.50pm the same police officer involved in the pursuit saw a man walking along Captain Cook Crescent who he claims was the driver of the Toyota, which was a short distance away.
Police enquiries revealed the Toyota had been reported stolen.
The 28-year-old Gordon man was arrested and charged with a number of traffic offences, and will appear in court on Wednesday. Police will oppose bail.
