Monaro Highway Patrol officers detected the ute travelling at excessive speed on the Kings Highway about 10.25am on Saturday. Police will allege the ute, driven by a 35-year-old Belconnen man, was detected travelling at 163km/h in the 100km/h zone.
The driver was stopped and issued with a $2154 fine, and police also confiscated his ute and suspended his driving privileges in NSW for six months.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Operations Commander Superintendent Stuart Smith said this behaviour can have tragic consequences.
"The simple fact is this man could have killed himself or other road users and it is lucky we stopped him before something more serious happened," he said.
"He has now lost his car, his licence and a lot of money but what cost do you put on a life? There is no place on our roads for drivers like this and we will continue to target speeding motorists and those who choose to disobey the road rules."
