Police said they were called to the Stromlo area by bushwalkers about 4.30pm, when officers found a body "partially immersed" in the river.
A post mortem would be done to determine the cause of death and the identity of the body, which was believed to have been there for some time.
But at this stage police said the death did "not appear to be suspicious".
On Sunday, a police spokesman said DNA tests were needed to formally identify the person and police did not yet know their age or gender.
Police could also not confirm the exact location of where the body was found.
The Coroner has been called in as police investigations continue.
