Serving and retired police officers from across Australia came together in a solemn gesture of commemoration on Saturday afternoon in Canberra. The officers came in droves on motorcycles as contingents from across the country met on the outskirts of Canberra and more than 1500 participants streamed down Northbourne Avenue and looped around Parliament House on their way to the National Police Memorial on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin.

The Wall to Wall Ride for Remembrance, started in 2009 to commemorate the service and sacrifice of fallen Australian police, raises funds to support police charity organisations and promote motorcycle safety.
Only one name will be added to the National Wall this year, a retrospective installation for Victoria Police Senior Constable David Hobson, who died in 2011 from injuries sustained in a police motorcycle accident in 1990.
NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said the ride brings the Australia police family together to honour the sacrifice of fallen colleagues and reflect on the dedicated services of all officers, past and present.
"It is always our hope to remove a blank scroll from the baton. This year, we are thankful our NSW scroll will be blank," the Commissioner said.
Last year, the initiative raised $100,000 for police charities.
