Ms Klemke was mauled to death in October 2017. Police were forced to shoot the animal after it attacked them when they attempted first aid on Ms Klemke.

On Wednesday, ACT Policing said two men wearing balaclavas burst into the home on Molesworth Street in Watson on March 17, 2017, and threatened the occupants.

ACT criminal investigations manager Harry Hains said the two men had not been acting alone.

During the resulting altercation, it's alleged Ms Klemke's son was put through a glass window and he suffered a laceration to his head and the dog's ear was cut off with a machete. A gun was also fired into the house, police said.

Mr Hains confirmed Ms Klemke had been home at the time of the incident but had not been injured.

Mr Hains said police were hunting for four men in connection to the home invasion and burglary.

"The offenders were seen entering a grey coloured Holden Astra. The same type of vehicle and its occupants were seen acting suspiciously in the suburb of Casey later that evening."

Police published face-fits of four men seen in the vicinity of Molesworth Street at the time of the aggravated burglary.

He said Ms Klemke's death was not linked to the March 2017 incident.

At the time of Ms Klemke's death, The Canberra Times reported police attended the house earlier that year, but investigations were ongoing.

Mr Hains said the motive for the attack was still under investigation. he said there was "no cause for concern for other residents of the street or the broader Canberra community".

At the time of the burglary, police worked with the public to identify the offenders and were now continuing their investigations "liaising with victims and witnesses".
