Despite initial concerns, police have determined that a fire that destroyed a garage at a Scullin home was not suspicious. They are expected to investigate a fire at the Downer Community Centre.
The ACT Emergency Services Agency said the Scullin fire brought down power lines, causing about 30 homes in the area to lose electricity.
One person was at home at the time, although there were no reported injuries.
The garage was destroyed in the fire, but surrounding homes were protected.
The fire brigade sent three pumpers, a commander and the breathing apparatus van after several Triple Zero calls from 2.12am.
Earlier in the night, the ESA said firefighters put out a small fire at the Downer Community Centre, Frencham Street, Downer after a security guard raised the alarm about 10.40pm.
"Three fire pumpers, a Commander and the Breathing Apparatus (BA) Van arrived on scene to find smoke issuing from the building. Crews quickly gained access and extinguished the fire located in a storage room," they said.
"The cause of the fire is deemed to be suspicious and the scene will be handed over to ACT Policing for investigation."
No one was injured in that fire, either.
