Cooma police said hotel security staff refused entry to a 23-year-old man, who then remained in the vicinity of the venue.
When police spoke to the man, he allegedly lashed out and knocked a constable to the ground.
Both security staff and police then struggled to restrain the man.
The police officer was taken to Cooma Hospital for treatment.
The Waramanga man was charged with assaulting and resisting police, possessing a prohibited drug, and being an excluded person remaining in the vicinity of the hotel.
A NSW Police spokesman said it was an offence to remain within 50 metres of a premises after being refused entry or asked to leave a licensed venue.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the alleged assault occurred at the Cooma Hotel. The incident occurred at another hotel.
