The 33-year-old was found viciously beaten in the town of Young in the early hours of August 29.
Despite the efforts of paramedics and doctors, he died in hospital a short time later.
Cootamundra Local Area Command crime manager Detective Inspector Paul Huxtable said he had travelled to Queensland on Monday to speak to an 18-year-old man in relation to Mr Power’s death.
He said police are applying to extradite the Young resident to NSW, where he will be charged with murder among a number of charges.
“He’s in custody with the Queensland Police for other matters there,” he said.
“That’s not before the court for two weeks, so hopefully [he will be extradited] shortly after that.”
Detective Inspector Huxtable said the man would also be charged in relation to an armed hold up on a Caltex Service Station in Young in late August.
Mr Power had moved back to the town less than a week before his death to be closer to his four-year-old daughter, his sister Phia Power said.
Ms Power said her brother had previously spent eight years in Young, working as a cherry picker before finding regular shifts as a bricklayer.
She said her family were relieved to see some progress in the case, more than two months after her brother’s death.
“It’s been a really tough journey,” she said.
“With each stage comes a new feeling. We feel happy, but there’s a sorrow with it.”
Ms Power said her family had been grateful for the ongoing police support and remained confident that justice would be served.
“We’re very hopeful,” she said.
“But obviously, we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves.”
More to come.
