On bail again
A WOMAN previously found guilty of eight breaches of bail and seven assaults has avoided being detained after breaking her bail conditions again.
The ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday heard Melanie Therese Chatfield, aged 29 of Kambah, was on bail conditions so onerous it was like a house arrest at the time she was found at the Woden Interchange not accompanied by her mother.
The prosecution, who opposed bail, said Chatfield had outstanding charges against her, including three assault charges.
While noting Chatfield's terrible history of failing to appear in court, magistrate Lorraine Walker said she granted bail because the detention to wait for the outstanding matters to be resolved would be lengthy.
