About 7am, ACT Police searched the home of a 40-year-old Duffy man and seized dried cannabis and four mature cannabis plants. The search followed an investigation and the man will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
At 1.30pm, police then searched the home of a 34-year-old Holt man and seized four mature cannabis plants, drug paraphernalia, dried cannabis and fireworks. This man will also appear before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
While searching the property, police found a number of chemical substances suspected of being used to manufacture drugs or explosives. Police requested assistance from the Bomb Response Team and an AFP chemist who declared the substances safe to handle and removed them for safe disposal.
Later in the afternoon, police searched the car of a 42-year-old Evatt woman and seized a 12 gauge double-barrel shotgun, ammunition, cannabis seeds, drug paraphernalia, steroids, cash, and a small amount of a crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
A police spokesperson said the search of this vehicle was related to the assault of a 27-year-old Kambah man who was stabbed in his chest and torso at a Dunlop residence around 11.30pm on Saturday March 22. The man remains in a stable condition at Canberra Hospital.
Around 8pm, police seized seven mature cannabis plants and hydroponic equipment from a Ngunnawal residence. An investigation into this matter is ongoing.
Acting Crime Manager Detective Sergeant Steve Ladd said the four unrelated seizures show that intelligence-led policing achieves results.
“Any amount of drugs or firearms removed from criminal hands and off the streets of Canberra is a job well done for ACT Policing, but four drug seizures of this scale in one day is an outstanding result,” he said.
