Officers pulled over a P-plate driver on Namatjira Drive, Weston, on Friday night and found a three-year-old child unrestrained in the back.
When the driver was questioned, he said he could not be bothered installing the child restraint after recently changing vehicles.
The restraint was in the boot.
A day later, police pulled over a driver in Belconnen about 4pm, after he was seen by NSW police.
The driver had more than twice the legal blood alcohol limit and had a four-year-old and an eight-year-old with him.
Traffic Operations Station Sergeant Rod Anderson said police were shocked by the two incidents.
''Kids don't get the choice,'' he said. ''We do, adults do, but kids don't get the choice, and I think it's really unfair of the drivers to put them at that sort of risk.
''It's horrible for anybody to see any child injured, but when it's so preventable, when adults have made a choice, they've made a decision that's going to impact on a young person's health and possible life, it is really frustrating.''
Police are warning drivers they will be out in force during the Christmas break, and will have zero tolerance for dangerous driving.
Sergeant Anderson said it was unacceptable that young people were put at risk because drivers either could not be bothered putting a child restraint in a car, or chose to drive while drunk.
''Those are the people who never get to see a child injured, or in a car accident, or go to hospital and have to talk to young people who have been injured because of silly things like their child restraint not being fitted, or not having a seatbelt on properly,'' he said.
Double demerits are in force for speeding and seatbelt offences, and an extra point for all other traffic offences, until January 1.
