Andrew Paul Bettanin, 31, will face Queanbeyan Local Court on Tuesday over an alleged break and enter in 2010.
The defendant was refused bail when he appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday morning on charges of reckless driving and speeding.
A police statement, issued before he appeared, said a driver had failed to stop for NSW officers at about 4.40pm on Sunday and was pursued until he entered the ACT through Williamsdale in Canberra’s south. The pursuit was terminated within the ACT shortly after.
But, at about 4.50pm, police allegedly saw the car turn off the Monaro Highway onto Johnson Drive in Richardson. The car was allegedly pulled over by members of the Tuggeranong Patrol.
The driver was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with two driving offences.
Bettanin applied for bail when he appeared in court on Monday.
His lawyer said his client, who works in a Braddon car yard, would be willing to adhere to strict bail conditions, including reporting to police.
Officers from NSW Police also applied to have him extradited to answer a historic break and enter charge.
Magistrate Peter Dingwall refused bail and ordered Bettanin to be taken into custody by NSW authorities.
