Would-be patrons were met with prominent red signs on the doors of each, stating that the businesses had been closed under a prohibition order for breaches of the Food Act 2001. A spokeswoman for the health service said last night that the eateries would remain closed until they had addressed all the conditions on their prohibition notices.
''[Both] premises were unclean and failed to maintain temperature control for critical food items,'' she said. ''The ability to clean hands was also compromised on multiple occasions during the inspections.''
Under new food safety laws that passed the Legislative Assembly last month, ACT eateries have to display a closure notice if the government issues them with a prohibition order.
