P-plater's car seized after alleged drunken burnout

Officers have seized the car of a P-plater who allegedly did a burnout while drink driving then ran away from police.

Police say they saw an 18-year-old Wanniassa man in a silver Holden Statesman doing a burnout at a petrol station at Wanniassa shops, about 10.30pm on Saturday December 29.

When officers approached him, the man allegedly jumped from the car and away on foot.

He was apprehended a short time later and after testing was allegedly found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.130.

His car was seized and will be impounded for 90 days under Section 5 of the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999, which allows police to take possession of cars used for street racing and other unsocial activities.
