Located front and centre overlooking the giant front beer garden, the artwork is an adaptation of the last supper, re-created with animals and beer.

While he has taken part in events like New Acton's Art Not Apart, this is the first time Solomon has created a public, commissioned piece.

''I've never done anything of this scale or anything as public,'' he said.

''It feels good – it's getting a lot of attention. And I can brag at school.''

Solomon says he takes after his mother, Kacy Grainger, who is the artist behind the internal artworks at Hopscotch.

''I've been drawing for my whole life, since I could hold a pencil,'' he said.

''I'm in year 10 at the moment. I want to have a career in art and film, so that's what I'm working towards.''

The determined teenager worked with the Hopscotch owners to develop the concept, managing to fit the project in around school.

''It took me a week and a bit of the school holidays and a few weekends after that just to get everything done,'' he said.

If you are checking out the mural, keep an eye out for the bull in the blue jacket and cravat on the right-hand side – modelled on a certain chef and judge on a popular cooking show.

A nice day for a rural wedding

Liz Redmond's adoptive home of London is full of beautiful places fit for a wedding. But when it came to organising her own nuptials, only one place back at home in Canberra would do.

Liz and her fiance Jonathan Rushton will tie the knot on Saturday at Lanyon Homestead in Tharwa.

While she has lived away from Australia since 1991, Liz grew up in Farrer and remembers cycling out to Tharwa and back via Point Hut Crossing, back when there were no suburbs in the Tuggeranong Valley.

Liz now works in vet policy for the British government, and it was through work that she met her husband-to-be, who is a professor at the Royal Veterinary College in London.

When they discussed wedding venue options, Liz loved the idea of Lanyon Homestead ''because it represents my home''.

''To me it was like, 'Well, if I'm going to get married, I want to come home,' '' she said.

Liz also said Jon loves the rural heritage of Australia and thinks Lanyon Homestead is a beautiful spot.

''I come back to Australia every year, and Jon comes with me as often as he can, which is most years,'' she said.

''He's from a dairy farm in Lancashire. He's from the land, so he just loves rural Australia and loves that Australia is a real rural economy.''

After the vows are exchanged, the guests will be taken on a tour of Lanyon Homestead while the photos are being done, before gathering for the reception.

The newlyweds will then head off on an adventure, flying to Darwin and then driving back to Canberra over three weeks.

''Jon was a backpacker in Australia, and he went all over, but I've never been up to the Northern territory or central Australia,'' she said.

''So I'm going to see Uluru for the first time.''

Winging it across the country

It turns out Red Bull really can give you wings – well, perhaps at least a plane ticket.

Twenty teams of university students from across the country have hit the road for five days in the inaugural Red Bull Can You Make It? adventure, with only Red Bull cans to use as currency.

The challenge sees the teams race across the country to visit six checkpoints using nothing but creativity, charm, wit and Red Bull cans to swap for transport, accommodation and food.

Representing the ACT is ''The 3 Pigs'' – Daniel Tuddenham, Rhys Hartwig and Jack Hall – from the University of Canberra.

Daniel has briefly been in the spotlight before, as the first contestant eliminated from season five of MasterChef.

Quilt and Craft Fair

Canberrans have been getting up close and personal with layers of blankets and quilts with the low temperatures recently. Next week the quilts will take centre stage, hanging on walls, at the Canberra Craft and Quilt Fair.

The fair will showcase the 30 finalists of the 10th anniversary quilting challenge hosted by the Australasian Quilting Convention, including the design of local artist Helen Godden from Latham.

The theme of this year's challenge is the number 10, and Helen's quilt features 10 green bottles, inspired by the song of the same name.

Having always been an artist, Helen only discovered quilting a decade ago at age 38.

''I now travel the world teaching quilting, painting and stitching all over Australia, New Zealand and the USA,'' she said.

Helen's 10 Green Bottles quilt took her about two weeks to make, and features her trademark dragonflies hidden in the design.

''When I turned 40, I got a dragonfly tattoo, which is the symbol of change, and my whole career path changed with my quilting,'' she said.

''I pay homage to the dragonfly and put him in all my quilts. In this one, because of the 10 challenge, I've put in 10 dragonflies.''

As well as showcasing craft displays, the event will feature workshops and classes, and crafting supplies to try and buy.
