The RAAF Memorial Grove and parking area, at the intersection of the Federal Highway and Majura Road, are part of the Canberra-Sydney Remembrance Driveway. The driveway began with trees planted at Sydney and Canberra in the 1950s. Land was set aside for the RAAF Grove and the ACT government later added the Hughie Edwards VC rest area.

The Memorial Grove caters for organisations that might not meet the strict criteria for having memorials or plaques laid at the Australian War Memorial. Its paths lead to many features and dedicated plaques. These include the Rond Point viewing platform, where seven interpretative panels depict the historical linkages between aviation and the national capital.

Nearby is a central cairn and cross now illuminated by solar lighting installed after the Snow family, owners of the Canberra Airport, donated $10,000 for the project. The Power Saving Centre installed the lights, which are designed for a 14-hour dusk-to-dawn operation with four days' worth of storage. This means that it can operate for four nights without any input of energy.

Mateship compels many of the retired RAAF members to maintain and enhance the memorial, including Bob Weight, who signed up in 1964 as a 15-year-old from Mackay. He formed a life-long friendship with his then flight lieutenant Arthur Skimin. When Mr Skimin recently stepped down as vice-president of the RAAF Association ACT division, Mr Weight asked his long-time mentor if he could put his hand up for the role.

Now vice-president, Mr Weight said the Snow family had been extremely generous and wonderful supporters of aviation and aviation history for a long time. In a letter to the family, Mr Weight said:

"We will never be able to thank you and your family and the bigger family at the Canberra Airport enough. Also the efforts of Mick Burgess and Power Saving centre were tremendous."
