The owner and driver of the Pink Party Bus has been using his vehicle to evacuate animals and transport supplies as the community begins the long road to recovery.

Mr Duffy, from nearby Hoskinstown, said it made perfect sense to help others by putting his bus to good use.

"The main thing we've been using the bus for was, as the fire came through, loading animals and pets and using it as a vehicle to evacuate them," Mr Duffy said.

"We had a litter of puppies, domestic pets and a cockatoo.

"They didn't end up being evacuated but we even had a couple of ponies and some sheep lined up at one point.

"At the moment we've got about 40 bales of hay on board and we'll be dropping them out there tomorrow [Wednesday]."

Eleven homes were lost and about 12 more damaged in the fire, which ripped through 3100 hectares of land at Carwoola, south-east of Queanbeyan.

Mr Duffy stressed there were many others busting their guts to get Carwoola back on its feet.

"Because I'm in a pink bus it's quite visible but I really do think there's a heck of a lot of people doing a lot more than I am," he said.

"It's very important that the quiet, hard workers get the recognition they deserve."

The Carwoola Community Facebook group has been swamped with offers in the days following the fire.

Residents have come together to offer shelter, clothing, food for stock, help with heavy lifting or even just the opportunity to chat about the terrifying experience.

The captain of the Stoney Creek Rural Fire Brigade, David Hanzl, said the people of Carwoola had been "remarkable".

He spoke about one woman who had shut down her cafe in Queanbeyan to come out and cook for others and also singled out the efforts of Mr Duffy and his bus.

"We've been very fortunate. The community has been absolutely wonderful. There are lots of these stories out there," Mr Hanzl said.

"Unfortunately, it's not possible to identify or thank them all."

Suzy Watson from Wildcare, an organisation that looks after injured wildlife, said the community response had been great.

"People are being just great in terms of offers of feed, medical supplies and other equipment," she said.

Minister for Justice Michael Keenan and New South Wales Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant announced a disaster relief package to help those affected by the fire on Tuesday.

Assistance is available for uses such as helping those whose homes or belongings had been damaged, or supporting local councils with the costs of cleaning up.
