A 28-year-old repeat drink-driving offender was arrested on Thursday night after running his Ford Falcon off the road in Civic and returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.206.

Police said the Queanbeyan man, who was driving with a probational license, overtook officers driving in an unmarked car at an "excessive speed" around 11.25pm.

The man then lost control of his car as it skidded towards a curb, mounted the gutter, and slid a considerable distance before eventually coming to a stop.

There was extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle.

Officers attended the scene of the crash and the driver underwent a roadside breath screening test, which returned a positive result.

He was taken to the City Police Station where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.206 and was issued with a notice suspending his right to drive for 90 days.

The 28-year-old man had only just resumed driving on a probation license after before previously caught drink driving.

He will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
