Officers noticed a white Mitsubishi Triton driving in a suspicious manner southbound on Athllon Dive in Farrer around 3.40am.
The vehicle turned onto Sulwood Drive in Kambah where police signalled the drive to stop on the side of the road.
The driver, a Kambah man, stopped near a pedestrian laneway but then fled on foot hiding in bushes in parkland some distance away.
Once police found the man, they conducted an alcohol screening test for breath analysis which returned a positive result.
He was then taken to Woden Police Station where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.078.
The 37-year-old was served with an immediate suspension notice rendering him unable to drive for 90 days.
He will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
