Made of sheeted asbestos, the structure was taken apart piece by piece, according to a spokeswoman for Territory and Municipal Services. New material will be used for a replacement building.
Work will begin in early 2016 on the new pavilion, new turf and wicket, lighting and landscaping.

A Canberra firm, dsb Landscape Architects, has prepared a landscape plan which retains many of the existing mature trees. The original picket fence is being stored while the site is being used as a storage area.
