The current bridge was built in 1956 and requires ongoing maintenance due to age and complexity of the structure.

The new bridge is expected to improve travel times in peak periods, safety and freight access.

Maintenance problems with the bridge have previously caused traffic headaches for locals and holiday makers.

The RMS has revealed a concept design and environmental assessment of the replacement bridge and invited public comment.

A video releases shows how the new bridge would intersect with existing roads and a planned new Kings Highway intersection with traffic lights.

The proposed design features a new four lane concrete bridge, a three metre share path on the eastern side and an increase in river foreshore space.

"We encourage the Batemans Bay community to continue to provide feedback on the replacement bridge to help shape the final plans," an RMS spokesman said.

Four drop-in sessions will be held for the community to review the concept design and environmental assessment.

The first will be held on November 15, between 3pm and 6pm at Batemans Bay Community centre.

The next session will be held on November 19, between 8am and 1pm at Batemans Bay Corrigans Reserve Sunday market.

The remaining two sessions will be held at the Batemans Bay Village Centre on November 23, from 3pm to 5pm and Batemans Bay Community Centre on November 25, from 10am to 12pm.

Feedback on the concept design and review of environmental factors is invited until Friday, December 8.
